This program is designed to provide the student with the skills and competencies needed to prepare them for entry-level positions and allow them to effectively perform in a variety of office settings in the business community. The student will learn and use a variety of software packages that will increase his/her marketability in the business world.

Positions include administrative assistant, secretary, receptionist, information clerk, and customer service representative. Duties include answering phones; scheduling meetings and appointments; maintaining files; managing projects; composing correspondence; sending information via mail and e-mail; and handling customer inquiries, requests, and complaints. They may also include creating presentations and reports; conducting research; and managing databases.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics* reports that employment in this field is projected to grow, with over 202,000 receptionists and information clerks, 362,000 secretaries and administrative assistants, and 545,000 customer service representatives needed nationally between now and 2016.
